In the small hamlet of Lenthéric, which is part of the Faugères appellation located in the center of the Languedoc, Didier Barral is the thirteenth generation of vine growers. While his ancestors made a living by growing vines, Didier expanded the family business in 1993 when he started estate-bottling and selling his wines on a bigger scale. Domaine Leon Barral, so named after Didier's paternal grandfather, is a shining example of revolutionary winemaking. Not long after the domaine was established, Didier believed that biodynamic farming methods would be the most effective for managing his thirty hectares of vineyards. To make his vineyards a self-sustaining ecosystem, he has invented a number of cutting-edge agronomic approaches.
This naturalist, biodynamic expert, and Renaissance man is highly regarded by his contemporaries for his forward-thinking approach to issues like vineyard soil management, insect management, and drought mitigation.
