About The Wine
Gérard Boulay is one of the towering figures of Sancerre.
His family has grown grapes and made wine in Chavignol since the 1300s. His wines are among the most respected in the region, showcasing the great terroir of Chavignol in its most pure form. As is the case with all great vignerons, his focus is put squarely on the vineyard, he hand-harvests, farms without herbicides or pesticides, and works his plots with horse over machine.
The Tradition is a blend of up to 30 small parcels of fruit from 35-40 year old vines planted across Les Chasseignes, Les Longues Fins and Le Rue de Veaux, with a small portion of younger vine material included for freshness. It spends eight months on lees, with a small portion fermented in wooden cask.
It shows purity, texture and restraint, and is simply one of the more refined and sublime examples of Sauvignon Blanc you are likely to come across.
